OK, charlie down, see if you can understand this little theory... and it's only a theory so, think about it a little.
The "welfare shoppers" as you call them a) spend their money almost immediately, here in OZ. Which means that the money they get gets back into OUR economy almost immediately! None of this sending it off to the tax havens of the world. It all stays here... spent at the grocer's, milk bar, tram fares etc. b) even if half the OZ population were subsidised by the tax payer, it would still not be anywhere near as much as what the tax payer pays for the huge corporations who avoid paying their share of the tax -as if it were a plague! c) welfare shoppers ALSO pay tax. In everything the buy! GST, remember? Introduced by your great hero the wedgie, the brownest nose on the globe?
