China above ground coal gasification

    I live in the U.K. and still remember when my Mum's cooker was converted from town gas (synthesis gas from superheating coal and steam above ground ) to natural gas .   

    I'm amazed that the Chinese are having problems producing town gas in this way as has been happening for over 100 years .

    These projects are above ground coal gasification rather than in situ but it looks like bad news for UCG too imho .
