I didn't get a chance yesterday but I'd like to say that:
1 the ambassador acquitted himself very well in the face of often quite aggressive questioning and didn't shirk from giving polite and lengthy answers
2 I was pleasantly surprised that so many of the younger journalists didn't hesitate to ask strong questions and follow them with supplementary questions till they got to the crux of the issue
3 All in all I thought it was a thoroughly useful exercise and probably more useful than most govt to govt meetings in its frankness. He was left with no uncertainty about Australian attitudes in general and we were left in no uncertainty about China's attitudes
