Sounds a bit like the US domination of the Oil, Steel and Film Industries during the 20th Century. Not forgetting the De Beers "Cartel" of course or the original American in Anglo American ! However in the case of NdPr I think the Market might be a tad too large for anybody to maintain control for very long. The key to market share is thru Refining technology and I can't see the US respecting any Chinese Processing "Patents" or visa-versa !
