China Datang Corporation, one of the five power magnates in the country, started constructing a coal terminal at Dongjiakou port in Qingdao city, East China?s Shandong province on Jun 17, local paper reported.

Datang will construct two coal berths of 100,000 and 50,000 tonnes in the phase II, after completing the first phase of two general cargo berths, Qingdao Daily reported.

The company is also planning a coal stocking centre with annual capacity of 20 million tonnes at Dongjiakou to service its power projects in the region, but no time schedule is worked out yet.

Dongjiakou, currently under construction, is to become another major port in north China by 2015, with annual handling of 100 million tonnes commodities, in a bid to facilitate handling of imported products from Indonesia, North Korea, Australia and Russia.
