I also agree that the placebo effect can be powerful, but its power degrades with time - and this is where I think the trial design is going to play a huge role. The placebo may work for 4-6 weeks, but it won't keep on working over a long period - ie the 12 week measurement for this trial. I think those on the placebo will see a decline in the placebo effect as time progresses, or simply no change at all as they were on the placebo. The patients receiving the treatment however will hopefully kick on and keep on improving over the 12 weeks.
