IF only trade was as simple as these articles. China could embargo REE again but last time it caused many design outs especially in the highly profitable heavies. Teo bigeses losers were CFL which used lots of heavies as fluorophores replaces with LEDs. Second was Plasma TVs angin they used Heavies for Fluorophores In other post I showed what happened to LA and CE. We cannot be sure but My guess is China knows how easily some of these REE can be designed out and after spending more than 20 years they are not going to risk it with any restrictions never mind an embargo. If prices rise it is not terrible to have the price of a car go up 100~ 300. or a toll $1 or $2 But if a supplier playing with politics causes a $50,000 Car or $150 tool not to ship that will cause the supplier to be cut off. They are plenty of alterntives to PMs. All have draw backs but so do PMs

First Article has a big mistake in first line of second P "The U.S. imports roughly 18,700 tons of rare earth oxide each year—"
The amount of REO the US imports is NIL. They can't use the stuff. they import of Plenty of Assemblies that have REE in them. I think this is a very important distinction when looking at problem.
