China is moving away from el-cheapo consumer goods by plan
(its called "Made in China 2025) and like Japan 50 years ago,
it is moving into higher values manufacturing and hi-tech as well
as the new Green Industries. This is to escape the low valued manunfactring middle income trap:
That said, its consumer goods/low value goods via its SEZs has taken it to where it is today
but as domestic incomes increase it has no other option but to either automate and/or go
up market in manufactured products.
Part of its BRI is to enable its low value manufacturers to locate outside China
along the BRI routes and as such benefit. One such operation is along the
New Suez Canal 35 Klm extension SEZ which China built back in 2015
and another section which is being widened and earmarked for completion by the end of 2023..
