Goodman Group is expected to announce China Investment Corporation as a $500 million cornerstone investor, according to the Fin Review, and subsequently invest a further $1 to $1.5 billion over the next couple of years. Last Week Goldman Sachs JBWere speculated that Goodman could raise $1.27 billion via a rights issue to reduce gearing from 41 to 30 per cent. The Fin has also reported that Cougar Energy could raise up to $30 million and Southern Gold could be in the market for a $1.6 million capital raising. And finally, the oft-reported rumour that Xstrata is considering a bid for Anglo American has stepped up with BlackRock and Capital Group reportedly calling for a deal. The report, comes as London-listed Vedanta Resources is expected to lift its bid for copper company Asarco, after conglomerate Grupo Mexico made a counter offer.
