In the climb to dominance the incumbent is always threatened with displacement..... hence a boss will always encourage a minor but highly productive team player because it adds to the Leader's productivity. As soon as the minor player makes a play for control though, the Boss will come down hard on the team and point to the climber of the greasy pole as the cause of all ills and the crackdown, thus making the new candidate for leadership the evil non-team member.
Standard bullying strategy.
But the incumbent Leader of the Free World is tiring. The US had had the worst as well as the best. it was interesting to note that Trump was assessed as the 4th Worst POTUS in US history. We are feeling the effects of failed Trumpism in Victoria. Yet this is the true value of US style democracy (for what its worth) that every 4 years a POTUS is under threat of removal if said POTUS is such a dismal failure.
Trump, like Pauline Hanson, is working the disenfranchised, alienated and impoverished side of the equation. those who haven't been able to absorb learning and integrate into society in a functional manner. This is a long-forgotten sector that are subject to the worst employment conditions and so are unable to accumulate wealth or understanding.
China is advancing most of the community, but of course there will be a similar sector, deliberately ostracised by the Chinese monitoring systems of social credit (debit) in a supposed effort to force the disenfranchised to comply with societal "standards". Xi is following the example of the West and the social credit plan may backfire on him.
But what happens in the macro politics as China rises above "its station" as the poms would put it? Will EU, US, UK admit China as the dominant player?
