The numbers of persons infected surely reaches the millions. Acording to the BBC, China's statisitics do not even attempt to include persons who are positive, but have no symptoms. So for starters, China's statistics and anybody else's statistics aren't even counting the same thing.
As for the numbers who have died - so far - any number is a guess, but one thing the PRC statistics have shown to be consistent with other countries, is a fatality count of somewhere in the range of 2 - 4 % of those who have contracted the virus.
So if we assume about 30,000 per million, how many million? 2? 4? 6?
It took decades for the West to calculate how many starved in China during the 'Great Leap Forward' of the late 1950's early '60's. It'll probably be years before the COVID-19 fatalitiies in China can be accurately determined.
