So if a buyer is willing to pay $1 and a seller is willing to sell at 48.5 cents, and they are both at the top of the tree, where do they settle the trade at???
Sorry if this seems a bit basic, but not sure why you would care if you were at the top of the tree in trying to buy shares 30c above probably market rates. I would just put a bid in at 0.005 above the highest bid and I think you would then buy around there is there is a seller below those levels.
