There are many reasons for us to be concerned about China’s motives and behaviour .
From Australia’s point of view , in my opinion , the following are reasons fir concern; 1. The long term lease of Darwin harbour- a bad decision to say the least. 2. Chinas move to offer financial backing to small Pacific nations enabling them to have a stronger presence in the area and in some cases these small nations will not able to service the debt . What will China then do to such nations ?
Worldwide concerns are; 1. Chinas move to “ take over” the islands in disputes with Japan . 2. Hong Kong - should be of concern to HK residents as you may not continue to push the uprising much further until China’s military take over & we all know how they behaved in Tianamin Square. 3. Taiwan- China has made their intentions known & are pressuring small nations in the Pacific to cease recognising Taiwan in favour of China. Andrew Hastie was correct in my opinion in his comments about China.
