Indeed an interesting subject because plainly those choices for the vast majority of people are completely out of their hands.
Look at the toilet paper fiasco !!

Never the less, sometimes people do embark on a path that doesn't seem determined by compliance or rebellion against their hereditary and societal pressure .. or even their DNA !

This may well be according to other factors that in general are not understood because they are completely subjective and inaccessible to the scientific method.

Fortunately that doesn't mean they are invalid.
Not unreasonable to say that we really have very little understanding or even knowledge about the many factors that determine our life course.

Overwhelmingly, people don't like uncertainty.
Religion replaces this with an acceptable story stamped with the approval of the Creator of The Universe !
Win win for all except the manufacturers of anti depressants !!
