I believe in this instance he is correct, the two autocracies seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet and that is a problem for the West.

Why don't people think like the Chinese.
China is thinking how do we sure up resources and control them so we become the dominant power in the world.
How do we maintain our economic supremacy.
Answer, like they already have! They don't need a war. They are doing fine as it is.
They just need a military to protect their gains.
A military conflict could construe resources by increasing prices due to shipping risks and topple their regime.
We are at war with China right now and it is an economic war and China are doing very well.
Resources to supply their economic machine is their greatest need.
A major battle ground is gas reserves because it is the cheapest peaking power supply as renewables become cheaper.
China will keep building coal fired power stations while coal is cheap. They don't care, our save the planet policy works for them economically
The west can save the planet, they will just keep on making money
Battery technology is coming but at least 5-7 years before cheap enough to compete.
Our best policy is to forget talk of armed conflict, stop selling the farm and diplomatically talk about taxing OUR RESOURCES!
