    I'm glad you've posted that. I must remember to bring that up whenever the deniers and Luddites bring up the " what about China " argument.

    If China's emissions peak in the next decade and then start trending down following other nations then that's a good thing. If we have a good idea of China's emissions already then it is easier for more mature economies to model their emission reduction plans for the entire globe.

    Along the way other countries can put pressure on China to reduce their emissions by taxing them. The countries that lead in emission reduction will have a commercial advantage over China if it becomes a laggard.
