someone mentioned the rise of the USD as a pump and dump, probably an apt description....if the US is seen as a "flight to safety" then the market's taken leave of its senses...well we already knew that. Has suited Chinese to fund the US's credit binge (and ours) to assist their own growth...in the long run they'd be nuts to leave so much of their wealth in US Treasuries, they're not nuts. Likewise the Gulf States. They'll go on a spending binge buying commodity producers at firesale prices.
