I think you are taking the statement too literally - also note that companies like Apple, Caterpillar, Microsoft are "global" ie production and employment are scattered over the world and therefore the components and end product are not necessarily produced in the US.
In fact I have read some recent articles which outlined concerns over the strength on the US dollar for these companies that you name - this being one:
