There are plenty of articles around stating China's current lack of technical expertise and skills in regards to extraction of gas from shales and their real geological challenges with the shales being a great deal older and deeper when compared to other countries such as the US. Also concerns for them around access to water resources for fracking etc and not to mention a longstanding history of reluctance on the part of the Chinese to open up it's barricades and co-operate with foreign Corporates on resource projects upon Chinese soil.

However, Shell have just announced that they have signed agreements with China's largest energy producer to help the Red nation build up it's knowledge in order to be able to tap into their vast shale gas reserves. Not withstanding this, based on all the known facts it sounds like 'Shale Shangri La' won't be reached in the near future (i.e. 5 year term) by our Chinese counterparts which is positive for companies like Icon with their ambitions to supply the hungry Dragon either directly/non-directly in the future with gas to fuel its fire...
