Was last week’s rather dim view of the underlying strength of Chinese copper demand too bearish? After all, copper imports were up 28% in June. Copper futures are at 9-week highs. The futures price was up 8% in July. And no matter what role copper plays in China’s shadow banking system, China still makes up 37% of total global copper demand.
