"Sources at trading houses and miners confirmed that Australian miners BHP Billiton (BHP.AX) and Rio Tinto had paused their spot auctions, which normally take place once every week or two, for almost three weeks.
Top iron miner Brazilian Vale , which always delivers ores via long-term contracts, has not sold to the spot market after auctioning some 10 ships of ores this year, the sources said, adding that miners still kept up their sales under long-term contracts.
The miners used to sell ores in two Capesize carriers, or more than 300,000 tonnes, for each auction, trade sources added."
