When Geoff said that he wanted to buy back the farm in the early 70's, the US snookered him by cutting the country's access to O/S bonds & finance and the rest is history!
We simply have to tax mining & LNG more so that we can pay down soverign debt (now over a trillion in Comm, State & Muni debt) Have a look at Norway's (Peoples' )Soverign fund....the biggest in the world for just 5 mil people! Our Telstra proceeds was given to millionaire pollies & civil servants in the form of the Future Fund. If we can't own the mines or compel them to add value, then surely we can tax them!
