My understanding (probably wrong ) Issues with the Trimerang Keel seem to have not been around design concept more about lack of structural bracing and gusseting possibly because alloy tends to be more inclined to fatigue crack than steel . There will probably always be a place for vessels of shallow draft being capable of delivering large payloads of soldiers and equipment , however there vulnerability like all naval vessels has increased with modern drones.
These drones seem just an un manned advancement on what happened to the American frigate the Cole a number of years ago it is an asymmetric form of war fare .
