The US would never setup a military base in Taiwan as this would remove strategic ambiguity which has been the policy for decades and for the most part kept peace. AUKUS and our subs fit into the regional security balance by providing capability in Indian Ocean as a deterrent to cripple Chinese trade routes. I think its reasonable to have other nations pay their part for securing the world we all benefit from. There are benefits from having a local advanced manufacturing and nuclear industry as a national security point down the road.
