Maybe the gov could do something sensible about energy costs. That would benefit the entire economy including the mining sector.
Subsidies are a bandaid and the real reasons for lack of productivity/ competitiveness are known. Can't see how cost of labour can be fixed, but there must be a way to bring down energy costs. I'd actually advocate to go back to coal if it turned out to be the cheapest. We already help other nations by exporting vast amounts of coal, only to tie one hand behind our backs and pretend we are making a positive difference to climate change while watching others build new coal stations fueled by our exports.
Seriously though, there has to be a way that we can harness our gas reserves to have amongst the lowest cost energy globally. That would be huge for Australian industry.
