I think it's inevitable China will become a dominant player, perhaps even taking the place of what the US was 5 or 10 years ago. But at the moment, it does not look like it will happen anytime soon. Too many internal problems in that country. Biggest of which are, lawlessness and corruption, banking system riddled with bad debts and wealth disparity. To become a real industrialised nation all these issues need to be fixed up first, I reckon.
