Shorters can sell more than the allotted shares held by a company. This happened when BTA went to the USA and they couldn't provide script to cover the short sales( I don't know what the outcome was of that) . So the shorting can carry on for a long time, saying that it doesn't appear to be shorting that is holding the Company back. I would guess that there may be better options out there to park money in other stocks! When Alk does take off I think it will take everyone by surprise and I don't think it's too far off( fingers crossed).
