• Coal Mining
  
  Coal mining operations have two sources of contaminated water. Rain water is contaminated as it falls onto the coal stockpiles which must be collected and treated prior to discharge and water that is used in the process of washing and sizing the coal. Coal mines generally have an excess of water and so need to discharge to the environment. The discharge of untreated waters to the environment is being regulated and so cost effective treatment is needed.
  Surface Water discharge from coal mining operations is becoming more regulated as the impact of micro-pollutants from coal mining activity into the aquatic environment is becoming more understood. CIF® can be used to remove sulphate, selenium, nitrate, alkalinity and hardness prior to discharge. CIF® can be controlled to provide the highest level of security to sensitive aquatic environments. Other technologies such as Encapsulated Bacteria and Advanced Oxidation can be used to treat this water or the by-product streams form CIF®.
  Coal Wash Water can be treated and reused by CIF® to limit the amount of discharge waters leaving the site. By controlling many of the regulated pollutants internally, the complexity and cost of discharge treatment can be reduced.
