May be optimistic but I doubt this will go well in terms of "winning hearts and minds". You don't have to go looking far on the internet to find out how Xenophobic Chinese cops have been treating Africans, and by the sounds of it China is even less well received in the Solomons.
I would be more alarmed if China ends up militarizing the Solomon Islands. Don't really have many doubts they would if it benefitted their strategic ambitions. This overall really highlights how important our strategic relationship with Indonesia is. A weakening of the land to sea gap would be a strategic disaster.
