There's a story going round (well, was going round) that some hot shot tennis player was picking up taxis and instead of paying them with money he was paying them with his signature -which he called "autograph," of course, until a taki driver shamed him into giving both, the money as well as the autograph which, after all was nothing more than a signature. People do that with taxi drivers. Give them anything, even worthless greenbacks.
