More M&A activity is expected in the years ahead, albeit at a slower rate. The number of coal companies on the ASX has been greatly depleted by the recent spurt of activity. But the burning desire to secure long-term coal supplies for the electrification of Asia's high-growth economies, and a new but smaller wave of consolidation among the emerging producers, is set to keep activity at high levels.
