I take your point but the communist revolution plus the modernisation programs that followed have lifted millions out of poverty.This hybrid of capitalism that's state-directed has quite possibly been far more efficient than free market capitalism would have been. The West needs to become more interventionist in the market.
That said, I think progress towards democracy in China is inevitable. The rule of law is necessary for medium sized business commercial certainty but this is for the long term. Meanwhile this is a fascinating collision of events. I feel for anyone caught up in it.
