Yes but they still operate 2 other Bauxite mines in WA that are profitable running on updated technology.
The mine they are putting into hibernation needs major upgrades. When market sentiment changes the mine may well open again.BHP CEO recently indicated AUS needs another 40 Nickel mines by 2030 to keep up.Big players are looking 10+ years down the track not daily fluctuations or micro economic factors happening now.
