I totally agree if the economic world was reliant on an already unstable power grid, would make the powers to be an already more powerful force. For example the power outage in Victoria this month, reminded us how we can not function with one source of power. I did hear of people missing work as they could not charge their cars overnight. Don't get me wrong as I do believe there is a place for electric vehicles, but hybrid vehicles just make sense. We travel long distances in Australia and love to holiday towing the humble caravan!
Fossil fuels are essential and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Nuclear, petroleum oil, and coal might sound primitive, but how would emerging economies like India cope without these fossil fuels? The world's population isn't slowing down and do we really think going 100% electric is going to be sustainable when we see cracks surfacing in our already stressed power grid.
