Hydrogen fuel cell EVs will never be a thing. Hydrogen is much more costly and takes a lot of energy to produce, not to mention store and distribute. Toyota has closed one of the three hydrogen filling stations in Australia - hardly a vote of confidence. Unlike BEVs, Hydrogen fuel cell drivetrains cost more to manufacture and require ongoing maintenance (as do internal combustion drivetrains).
The only reason Toyota and Honda spent billions on developing hydrogen fuel cell drivetrains is that the Japanese Govt gave them the funds to do so.
