Government recognition is a big deal... future approvals in coming stages will come quick and when needed

    Key takeouts from the announcement

The Green Energy Major Projects group and Green Energy Assessment Unit will play a significant role in facilitating regulatory and environmental approvals, offering a streamlined assessment process due to the project’s alignment with the green energy agenda. This could potentially reduce the typical delays experienced in mining projects.

The pre-feasibility studies and environmental approvals are crucial next steps in moving towards eventual extraction.

The Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE), updated on April 23, 2024, outlines the significant potential of the Gonneville deposit of total 660 million tonnes of material, with an average grade of 0.79 g/t 3E (platinum, palladium, and gold), 0.15% nickel, and other significant amounts of copper and cobalt. These grades represent a tier-1 scale greenfield discovery, highlighting the project’s commercial and strategic potential, particularly given its focus on the rare combination of critical minerals.

“We look forward to working with the Western Australian and Commonwealth Governments, local
communities and Traditional Owners, as well as Mitsubishi Corporation, under our strategic MOU, as
we progress approvals and project studies for this important project.”

The Gonneville Project’s importance is further underscored by the global reliance on countries like Russia, South Africa, and Indonesia for the supply of these strategic minerals. By developing this project, Australia is positioning itself as a key player in the global market for critical minerals needed for renewable energy and electric vehicle technologies.
