    Italians ate mountains of pasta, and Asians large amounts of rice every day. Both cultures active and lean (at least traditionally) - doesn't this rather invalidate the idea that carbohydrates are incompatible with good health?

    Okinawans (previously, not now) obtained about 70% of their calories from carbohydrates (sweet potatoes mainly) and yet were one of world's healthiest and longest lived populations ...
