    Keep pretending any way you want, if it helps you sleep at night. Here's a handy definition for you:

    "The most common use of the semicolon is to join two independent clauses without using a conjunction like and."

    Well look at that. Two independent sentences joined by a semi-colon, which means a clause in the first sentence does not apply to the second because- all together now- they're independant.

    Your fantasy of a nomination and confirmation on the same day is exactly that, as the above paragraph proves.
