Might not the "tree of the knowledge of good and bad" signify the relative state of living on earth?

We live today in a relative state, where there is good there is also bad, happy / sad, rich / poor. Might this not be saying that back in time we finally came of age so that we each became responsible for our own spiritual state. The choice to live and die, "spiritually" is in our own hands now, having come to the age of personal responsibility, of knowing the difference between good and bad, that spiritual death is now in each individuals hands.

The tree of good and evil is this earth and what we eat from it, in other words, our actions have spiritual consequences. The Tree of Life in this garden is then the Word of God which is the true nourishment for the human spirit.

Obviously this is not speaking about literal bodily death because since the beginning of time creatures have lived and died, so it must be spiritual death spoken of here.
