My choice is that I don't know which I see in a positive light because "I don't know" is a great teacher that opens up many possibilities.
A quandary for many religious believers is trying to reconcile a perfect creator with an imperfect creation.
In our current understanding of reality, open systems like the earth can be self-correcting enabled by receiving energy from external sources like the sun.
But there is a cost in that the inclusion of the energy source to an open system making it a closed one means that the resulting closed system will degrade over time; the sun will eventually run out of fuel and the earth will not be habitable long before this happens to the sun.
The universe itself will end up as a dark large space that will not be able to support life any longer.
