"Jesus never claimed to be God."
The mystery of scripture is exposed by Jesus failing to correct Thomas for calling him - that's Jesus - my Lord and my God. Either Jesus thought of himself as the Lord and God, or he already had too much on this plate to bother to correct Thomas,
And when Jesus referred to himself as "I am" at his trial resulting in accusations of blasphemy either the religious authorities got it wrong by linking this phrase to the way that God identified himself to Moses at the burning bush incident or they interpreted Jesus correctly.
In any case it all happened to ensure that prophecies were fulfilled which rather smacks of shoehorning events to make sure that the events lined up with prophecies.
It just a pity that the divinely inspired scriptures were not sufficiently clear to remove doubt about the nature of God and Jesus to prevent wars and HC squabbles over an understanding of these two entities - of coarse that would have nullified the prophecies that such division would occur over the different understandings.
