As long as the bloke wasn’t pushing his religion on other people at work, then what is the issue?

The overall ‘problem’ that we find ourselves running into is The Bible. The Church reforms itself in many ways to stay modern. They are no longer burning witches (thankfully) or burning heretics at the stake. We no longer stone people to death for various crimes, in defiance of the writings in The Bible.
They can’t reform ‘The Bible’. What is in there stays in there. (But I guess they can pick and choose which bits they want to acknowledge and live by, and which bits they want to ignore for some reason).

It seems that Christians like to hone in on certain parts of The Bible - such as any stuff about homosexuality - and ignore loads of other stuff such as injunctions against being tattooed or eating shellfish. And The Bible is riddled with contradictions.

Jesus is usually depicted with long hair. According to The Bible he should have been dismissed from his job as the Messiah for not meeting the high standards of personal grooming that are required.

    Corinthians 11:14
    English Standard Version

14 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him,

    Ezekiel 44:20
    English Standard Version

20 They shall not shave their heads or let their locks grow long; they shall surely trim the hair of their heads.
