As an ex Christian I have great regard for the teachings of Jesus as I do for many others who see that the world is about reverse psychology.
One's intial response is almost invariably wrong.
What seems right for the individual is not best for the community.
What is more profound is that the hard thing to do is actually beneficial for the individual. eg. forgiveness rather than revenge or giving verus receiving or turning the other cheek etc.
Concepts difficult for a child but we are supposed to be adults.
