Heaven and hell are symbolic places that signify drawing near or being removed from God. All humans end up in the same place but the degree of that experience is dependant on the spiritual capacity one has developed in this life.
To run a competitive marathon requires a great deal of training. A fuller experience in the spiritual dimension requires the same sort of constant effort. Negative aspects fall away after death and what is left is the real you. If that real you has built positive attributes into one's life, love, honesty, fidelity, deeds based empathy and compassion, then you are on your way. Success and failure are in your hands in this life and the next.
Sometimes doubt is preferable than being certain of religious superstitions and imaginary states. Jesus is one path made to better support your journey, there are other paths.
If you don't believe in God when you die, then you soon will.
