Interesting that "faith" is used as if it always meant the same thing.

Yet, for example, the faith an alcoholic or drug addict or naive Christian has that "things will work out OK" is quite different to the faith a mountain climber has in his equipment and technique or a pilot or sailor has for trust in natural laws and skill in obeying them.

Whereas real faith should begin at the limits of reasoned experience, it is often served up as an excuse for ignorance and stupidity.
It is this naive "faith" that Christians of various kinds feel obliged to defend. Strange because genuine faith is personal and requires no defense or proselytizing.

I'm just trying to communicate in their language.

I would imagine that real faith in a religious context has little to do with belief. It would be an acceptance, a first conscious knowledge that leads to a life of good deeds simply as a way of life.
