@mogga...I think "indulgences" are a very civilized way to run society.
1. You decide on which crime you wish to commit.
2 You get a quote as to the penalties from your local Vicar, or the Bishop, or whoever.
3. Then you commit the crime you have paid for.
The way it works now, is that when you commit the crime the penalty is often far higher than you expected. Under the indulgences system, if the crime is too expensive, you have a choice beforehand to pick a cheaper one beforehand.
Say for instance; your neighbour has a very comely wife, whom you wish to seduce. You find out first, how many Stations of the Cross are required, how much you have to donate to the Mother Church, and how many Hail Marys are required. So you get her onto the cot knowing full well you have paid the price, so you can go for it with a clear conscience.
