    Well, they weren't banned back then. The Geneva convention hadn't been made. It was common practice to execute captured prisoners in WW1. All sorts of things have changed since then as warfare has become more "sophisticated".

    Now we just eliminate governments and let the civilians massacre each other. Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Afghanistan .... Much more humane.
