Sulphides intersected at Kenyas Bumbo deposit
    14th January 2011

Australian mineral resources devel- opment company Aviva Corporation is processing core samples from the Bumbo base metals deposit, in Kenya, and assay results are expected early in January 2011, after significant deposits of sulphide mineralisation were intercepted, the company reports.

The first diamond hole drilled at the Bumbo base-metal prospect has been successfully completed to a depth of 132,2 m and it intersected massive sulphide mineralisation (pyrrhotite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite and pyrite) from a depth of 67 m to 68,62 m.

This zone of massive sulphide mineralisation is located within a broader zone of disseminated and stringer sulphide mineralisation from 44 m to 75,21 m. As previously reported in Mining Weekly, the advanced Bumbo deposit has high-grade base-metal targets with an exploration target of between one-million tons and 1,5-million tons, grading 11% zinc, 3,5% copper, 1 g/t gold and 40 g/t silver.

The company is encouraged by the results from this first hole as they are in line with, and go a long way to confirm, the historical data obtained from the French minerals and metal research institution, Bureau de Recherch Gologiques et Minires reports. Unfortunately, all core and many of the details of this historical work were lost over the years.

While the versatile time domain electro-magnetics response is certainly associated with the presence of massive sulphides, Aviva is particularity encouraged by the presence of significant amounts of chalcopyrite and sphalerite in the core.

A second, steeper hole has been collared from the same drill pad from which the first was drilled and is currently at 51-m depth. The second hole will target the down-dip extension on mineralisation intersected by the first hole.

Thereafter, the drill rig will be moved about 280 m east-north-east of the first hole, where holes three and four will be drilled. Once again, the primary aim of these drill holes will be to verify historical intercepts, test down-dip potential and along strike potential to gain an appreciation of the potential size and grade of the deposit, while evaluating the geometry and nature of the electromagnetic anomaly.

Downhole electromagnetic surveys will be undertaken on some of the early holes to establish geometry and continuity of massive sulphides and to investigate off-hole conductors.
