Column 1Orocobre's Olaroz lithium production ramp-up is meeting rising prices as rapidly growing demand meets supply constraints, the broker notes. Olaroz production is set to double within 12 months and again by 2020 when phase II is completed.
Orocobre has set further targets with regard future production and processing that rival Tesla's ambitious goals for its electric cars, the broker notes. But challenges notwithstanding, success would unlock significant value.
Coverage initiated with an Outperform rating and $5.00 target.

Column 1Citi analysts have now incorporated management's near term price indications for lithium and this has pushed up the share price target to $2.22 from $2.10.
The analysts remain of the view investors are too bullish on long term price expectations, plus in the words of the analysts, the market is mispricing the risk surrounding the final commissioning stage of the Olaroz project.
The analysts do not exclude the possibility for even higher prices in the short to medium term, but these are opportunistic and unsustainable, in their opinion. Sell. Orocobre is now anticipated to be profitable in FY17.

Such a wide range of forecasts! I don't disagree with Citi that ORE is not without risk.. if in fact we get a negative update on the final stages of the facility ramp up, we would be looking at prices that ~$2ish as that would mean Phase 2 probably wouldn't go ahead... but from the recent announcement it seems like it has been de-risked quite a lot.
