cities have a limit of size

Those people who live in large cities must be re-thinking the reasons they live there. With shortages of resources, traffic snarls, polution, high costs, crime, much time consumed in travel, etc etc. I can understand people living in cities because their relatives are close, well paid work, good amenities, lots of things to do, home price escalation gives good profit, etc etc. However there comes a point where the good things are outweighed by the bad. The west coast American model is a possible solution; medium cities connected by good transport, close to coast. Work is available as it repeats the original city. This type of development is occuring in Western Australia because the land is available to do it. With Sydney it is difficult because of the terrain but it is happening. If you live 1 1/2 hrs travel west of Sydney, do you really live in Sydney or in some as yet un-named town. Housing affordability is there, but not necessarily where the people want to live and work. It is for the politicians and planners to rectify the problem while we have a boom on.
